Malaysia introduced the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) as an initiative to reject all forms of extremism and promote moderation. The GMM has gained support and recognition from world leaders as well as international and regional inter-governmental organisations.
As a multi-cultural, multi-racial and multi-religious country, Malaysia strongly believes in the practice of moderation in maintaining peace, unity and stability. GMM is essentially a call on rational, peace-loving people of all races, cultures and beliefs, to work together to drown all aspects of extremism in promoting tolerance, mutual understanding and respect.
Membership in the UNSC would enable Malaysia to contribute to the Council’s primary responsibility of maintaining world peace and security through the promotion of the GMM. Malaysia is confident that moderation could contribute to global peace, particularly in countering extremism.
