PM NAJIB RAZAK WELCOMES MALAYSIA’S ELECTION TO THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL
Prime Minister Najib Razak has welcomed Malaysia’s success in securing a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
In a video message released on Friday, the Prime Minister said that, “all Malaysians should feel proud of this achievement”.
Malaysia is now one of the 15 countries that make up the Security Council. Malaysia was one of five countries elected as a non-permanent member to the Security Council for the 2015/2016 term, and will now have voting rights on the Security Council.
The Prime Minister said:
“Malaysia has a strong record of promoting peace, moderation and security around the world. Our brokering of peace in the southern Philippines is one example.
“Our election to the Security Council is an endorsement of Malaysia’s foreign policy. We are increasingly being recognised and valued as a global partner for peace and security.
“With our Security Council seat, Malaysia will promote international peace and security by advancing a Malaysian vision of peace and moderation. It is a vision that I believe will ensure world peace.”
